by Paul Gangarosa (Author)
America is one of the most powerful and innovative countries in the world. So why do so many of our systems feel like they aren't working?
In "We Can Do So Much Better," Paul Gangarosa draws on over a decade of government experience to offer a clear, practical look at some of the most pressing challenges facing the United States today - from healthcare and housing to energy, immigration, student debt, and the cost of everyday life. This is not a book about ideology. It is a book about solutions.
Across nineteen chapters, Gangarosa outlines common-sense reforms designed to make systems simpler, more efficient, and more effective for ordinary Americans. These proposals focus on improving what already exists - modernizing outdated structures, reducing unnecessary costs, and aligning incentives so that systems work the way they were intended to.
The ideas in this book are grounded in a simple belief: we don't need to start over to make progress. We need to take a clear look at what isn't working - and fix it.
Inside, you'll discover practical proposals for:
The goal is progress, not perfection. Because at the end of the day, we can do so much better.
Paul Gangarosa, MPH, spent a decade in public health, including work at the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Georgia Department of Public Health, and Emory University. His work at CDC included roles in HIV/AIDS surveillance, the Division of Quarantine, the Epidemiology Program Office, and the National Immunization Program. He also trained Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officers and international public health professionals at the CDC Corporate University.
After leaving federal service, Gangarosa taught public health for over a decade at the College of Charleston, covering epidemiology, global health, community health, health communication, and disaster planning. This is his first book.
