He taught in Freiburg from 1948 until his retirement in 1981. He passed away in December 2011. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003eGeorge Wald was born in Los Angeles. He studied anthropology and philosophy in Los Angeles and philosophy, English, and ancient Greek in Freiburg, Germany. He wrote his doctoral dissertation under Wolfgang Struve in 1987.
